Hardship: Taraba govt to begin sale of 200,000 subsidised bags of grain

Published by

The Taraba State Government has announced plans to begin the sale of 10,000 metric tons of grains (equivalent to 200,000 50kg bags) at subsidised rates to alleviate the impact of fuel subsidy removal on residents.

Prof. Nicholas Nemesan, the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Chairman of the Taraba State Grains Procurement Committee, disclosed this during an inspection of warehouses in Bali and Jalingo Local Government Areas.

Speaking through Hon. Savior Nuku, Commissioner for Special Duties, Humanitarian Affairs, and Regional Development, Nemesan stated that the initiative reflects Governor Agbu Kefas’ commitment to easing economic hardships faced by citizens.

He revealed that grains are already being packaged at various warehouses and will soon be sold at a reduced cost.

“The government is committed to ensuring that the procured grains are of the best quality to safeguard the health of consumers,” he said.

“This gesture is part of Governor Kefas’ efforts to alleviate the hardship brought about by current economic realities.

“The government is determined to sell 10,000 metric tons of grains, equivalent to 200,000 50kg bags, at subsidized prices.

“The procurement process is nearly 100% complete, and sales will commence across all 16 LGAs soon,” the commissioner added.

He further assured that only grains of the highest quality will be distributed, prioritizing the health and safety of the people.

The project contractor, Mr. Siki Daniels, affirmed that all grains sold will meet strict health standards.

Dr. Aminu Jauro Hassan, Chairman of Jalingo Local Government and the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Taraba State, commended the initiative, describing it as a timely response to the economic challenges faced by residents.

Hassan praised Governor Kefas for his vision and appealed to citizens to support the administration’s transformative efforts for the state.
