Hardship: NEDC donates relief materials to less-privileged in Adamawa

As part of efforts to cushion the hardship been faced by Nigerians, the North East Development Commission (NEDC) has giving out palliative to alleviate the sufferings for distribution, particularly to the vulnerable members of the community in Adamawa.

The commission yesterday has handed over assorted food and non-food items to the state government for distribution to the needy.

Managing Director NEDC Mohammed Goni Alkali represented by Ag. Coordinator NEDC Adamawa State, Fatima Bakari Fatima Bakari, said “the items donated are meant to assist the less-privileged in the state.

The items donated  include rice, spaghetti, vegetable oil,  mats, children’s wear, and blankets for flood victims.

According to the MD,  these essential items will be shared among religious groups, people living with disabilities, and other vulnerable populations in the state.

In addition to providing relief materials, NEDC has also equipped the Adamawa Food Security Committee with agricultural machinery and processing equipment.

These machines  includes 16 rice mills, 8 oil press machines, 35 walking tractors, and other vital tools to enhance food production and security.

NEDC’s efforts extend beyond immediate relief, as they have also invested in capacity-building initiatives for 400 youths in various fields.

Which include renewable energy, solar installations, climate change adaptation, and waste management.

Among other areas that the commission  has showed concerns includes   partnering  with the state government to prevent flooding in the state capital by desilting and evacuating municipal waste in 60,000 meters of drainages.

Representatives from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) have commended and  expressed gratitude to NEDC for their timely intervention.

The Chairman of the State Food Security Committee, Dishi Kwabe said the items will go a long way in mitigating hunger and hardship promising to ensure judicious distribution of the items for the good of the society

This initiative is part of NEDC’s ongoing efforts to support vulnerable, less-privileged and communities in the North East region.
