Ojodu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State has distributed 2,500 bags of rice to vulnerable residents in the council to cushion the effect of hardship faced by Nigerians.
Additionally, the council provided 20 minibuses for residents and students to commute easily and N1 million interest-free loans for small business owners to boost their trade. It also distributed cash donations and food items through the Widows Food Bank to 100 widows, the elderly, and physically challenged people.
The Chairman of the council, Hon. David Odunmbaku, made this known while speaking with newsmen, stating that the 2,500 5kg bags of rice were distributed to various wards to alleviate the effects of hardship.
He noted that the council ensured the bags of rice reached those who needed them most and added that more such palliatives would soon be distributed.
Odunmbaku said his administration had made a meaningful impact on road infrastructure, healthcare delivery, education, empowerment, among others.
Regarding road infrastructure, the council boss stated that his administration had rehabilitated over four inner roads within one year, including Fadeyi, Paul Avenue, Otunla, Umar Saro Drive in Oluwole Estate, Ogba, and Tunji Olusanya Street in Ojodu. He also sought the assistance of the Lagos State Ministry of Works in finding a lasting solution to the bad portion of the road at Area G, Ogba, currently earmarked for repairs.
He mentioned that the council had rehabilitated Umaru Saro Drive in Oluwole Estate, Ogba, and Tunji Olusanya Street in Ojodu. In partnership with MTN, the council donated items worth N1 million to Life Fountain Orphanage at Omole Estate.
Regarding health, the council boss disclosed that the Apata Primary Health Centre (PHC) was rehabilitated, and the Gbadamosi and Apata PHCs had been upgraded to offer 24-hour services with alternative power supply provided.
Odunmbaku disclosed that the council donated N1 million to a kidney patient, Mrs. Hassan Adebamijoko, and unveiled the Agidingbi PHC. His administration organized free mammograms for women (40 years and above) at Ogba PHC in conjunction with Nigerian Physicians in America.
Additionally, he said the council partnered with Eko Club of Atlanta on a free medical mission at NIJ for hundreds of beneficiaries, while it organized a Cervical Screening Project in conjunction with LASUTH at Ogba PHC.

Speaking on education, the council chairman said his administration distributed back-to-school kits to pupils and upgraded the ICT center at Shogunro to an Information Technology hub with alternative power supply for manpower development in relevant courses.

He said the council also organized coaching classes for GCE and JAMB candidates at the Information Technology Hub for proficiency in CBT, while it donated free JAMB and GCE forms to 1,000 students and distributed furniture and exercise books to junior secondary and primary schools in the area, among others.
On empowerment, Odunmbaku said, “We partnered with KENNOL on vocational training of 20 youths in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing works.
“We engaged Flux Technology to train 32 youths and workers on UI/UX, Data Analytics, and Digital Marketing. We organized a Workshop on Gender-Based Violence for Women Development, and we organized a three-month mega training program in skills acquisition and business management for 250 residents.”
He said the council equally trained 60 youths on Waste to Wealth creation in partnership with Rotary Club, Gbagada, and LAWMA and distributed toolkits, which included sewing machines, automobile repair tools, makeup kits, and blending machines to women and youths.
