The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has called for the abolition of trade market associations in order to stabilize the price of food in our markets.
Dr. Adamu Abdullahi, the Executive Vice Chairman of FCCPC, noted this in Abuja while interacting with newsmen at an event with Consumer International.
While acknowledging the need for practical solutions through partnerships, Abdullahi pointed out that the biggest challenge and failure of the government is its failure to introduce anti-competitive policies before integrating our economy.
He also raised concerns about the carting away of food items from warehouses and the waylaying of food trucks, which are dangerous signs for the nation.
Abdullahi explained that FCCPC does not regulate the prices of market goods but only advises the government on possible solutions to fair pricing and consumer rights.
