Handouts: Fed Poly Offa reads riot acts to lecturers

MANAGEMENT of the Federal Polytechnic Offa, Kwara State has said that machineries have been put in place to curb and check every form of indiscipline by both staff and students, saying that sale of handouts has been banned for more than two decades.

A statement signed by the Head, Public Relations and Protocols of the institution, Olayinka Iroye, said that the polytechnic had eradicated all forms of corruption and malpractices, stressing that no lecturer sells handout to students “no matter the situation.”

“The Federal Polytechnic, Offa headed by Dr Lateef Olatunji, is a disciplined institution, a unique citadel of learning and a place for knowledge-thirsty souls where young people are groomed to transform the nation’s technological situations,” the statement said.

On the reported death of a student of the institution, Ridwan Ajiboye, over handout proceeds, the school management said that the deceased, an ND 1 student of Civil Engineering, actually took some quantity of a poisonous substance which led to his death days after he was taken to several hospitals for treatment.

“However, the other angle to the story as speculated that the said student took poison because he was embarrassed by a lecturer over handout proceeds is unfounded and false.

“Up till now, the circumstance surrounding the reason why the student took the substance is shrouded in mystery. However, the management is investigating the case to get to the root of the matter.

“The case of another attempted suicide by an ND student of Estate Management as reported in the same sad story is also untrue and baseless.

“For the benefit of doubt, the sale of handouts has been banned for more than two decades at the Polytechnic and no lecturer sells handout to students no matter the situation.

“Management of the Federal Polytechnic Offa headed by Dr Lateef Olatunji has eradicated all forms of corruption and malpractices, and machineries have been put in place to curb and check every form of indiscipline by both staff and students.

“The Federal Polytechnic, Offa is a disciplined institution, a unique citadel of learning and a place for knowledge-thirsty souls where young people are groomed to transform the nation’s technological situations,” it said.
