Former Nasarawa State Governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura
Nasarawa State Governor Umaru Tanko Al-makura has called on intending Muslim pilgrims in the state to shun any act of drug trafficking, prostitution and other social vices while in the Holy Land.
The governor made the call on Friday, in Lafia, during the farewell ceremony held for the 1120 intending pilgrims billed to travel to Saudi Arabia for the holy pilgrimage.
Al-Makura who was represented by his Deputy, Hon. Silas Agara explained that their attitude at the holy land would have far reaching impact on the image of the state and the country at large, hence, the need to guide against any social vices while on pilgrimage.
The governor also urged the intending Pilgrims to always use security ‘featured’ wrist bands during the Holy pilgrimage to avoid arrest and deportation.
Al-makura explained that, the security ‘featured’ wristbands is necessary for the protection of pilgrims against all forms criminality and to reduce difficulties pilgrims may face during the holy exercise.
The governor added that the use of the security wristband was non-negotiable and warned that anyone caught flaunting the directive (to always use the wrist-band), could be sanctioned by the hajj delegation or the Saudi authorities.
Al-Makura also informed the intending pilgrims that all necessary security steps have been taken to ensure a smooth ‘stoning of the devil’ exercise which according to him will take place in the night to forestall the unfortunate incident whereby some pilgrims died in the past while engaging on the exercise.
