Hair care for hot weather

AS the weather gods deemed fit, the brief harmattan return has given way to intense heat. For many ladies, the hot season is not a good time for hair and makeup, especially because of breakouts, occasioned by repeated sweating. Regular sweating ruins makeup and causes hair to take on a horrible outlook. Makeover provides some tips for caring for the hair during hot weather:

Go natural

Now may just be the time to take a stand and go natural. One major plus of the natural hair is that you can wash as many times, compared to those who have relaxed hair, without fear of undergrowth taking over. The hair needs to encounter moisture, outside heat, and washing regularly is the way to go. It will also help to discourage the use of chemicals on the hair which will sometimes, in the long run, weaken the strands.

Moisturise

Many ladies focus too much on moisturising the skin, forgetting that the hair also deserves the touch of a moisturising conditioner as well. Hot weather has a way of dehydrating the hair and using a moisturiser will help you to ensure that your hair is getting the right moisture it needs.

No hot air…or water

Hot air, available with blow drying, also contributes, in no small measure, to worsen dehydration of the strands and scalp. This season, let your hair dry naturally after washing. If it gets tangled or frizzy, use a moisturiser or better still, go for natural products such as shea butter, which will help to soften it and make it easy for detangling. Sometimes, it is said that washing the hair with warm or hot water will help out for the current humid weather, the hair already has all the heat it can bear. So, wash with cold water instead. According to research, cold water helps to lock in moisture.

Oil regularly

When it comes to oiling the hair, hot weather ensures you make it a daily ritual to avoid dryness. Also, rather than go for chemical-based oil for hair, use coconut oil instead. They are available at very affordable rates in the local market.

Use treatment, at least, once a week

As a result of the hairstyles ladies carry, many of which last as long as six to 12 weeks, or even more, hair treatment takes place once every three or six months. However, for this humidity, that may have to change. You should endeavour to let your hair undergo treatment at least once a week. When using hair treatment, ensure your stylist iuses as many natural hair products as possible.
