Habiba Charity Foundation (HCF) has appealed to rich individuals, corporate organisations and non-governmental organisations to assist the underprivileged in Nigeria by putting smiles on their faces.
The Chairman and Founder, Habiba Charity Foundation, Mr Rasheed Ismail, made the appeal during a Zoom meeting to announce HCF’s plan to commission two borehole projects of the foundation at ibefun-Ijebu and two boreholes as well at Imodi-Ijasiall in Ogun state.
According to him, wealthy individuals need to show gratitude to God by assisting people in need.
The HCF Chairman informed that the foundation in less than a year dug 12 boreholes in different communities providing access to quality drinkable water.
He said concerns to address various challenges confronting the underprivileged in the society gave birth to Habiba Charity Foundation.
He stated that the foundation had embarked on series of activities since 2013 to cater for the needs of inmates at correctional centres, juvenile homes, widows, orphans as well as the elderly before its official registration in 2016.
Ismail noted that the Habiba Charity Foundation named after his demised daughter continues to focus on the empowerment of the disadvantaged people irrespective of their religion or ethnic background.
He mentioned the relocation of 20 families from Ijora slum to newly-well furnished apartments with two years of rental payments and financial assistance for them to set up businesses for sustainability.
He said: “We all have to help our fellow Nigerians who are in need. As rich individuals, do it for God’s or humanity’s sake. We need more people to come on board to support the work Habiba Charity Foundation is doing to be able to do more. We assure people of accountability and transparency in conducting the affairs of HCF. There is proven evidence of judicious use of resources given to our foundation.”
According to him, HCF facilitates the release of inmates by paying their fines after investigating their ignorance of cases that brought them to correctional centres, empower them and ensure smooth reintegration ba
He said, “Habiba Charity Foundation continues to serve as a pillar of support for inmates at various correctional centres. Some inmates after leaving the correctional centres don’t have anything to do, they don’t know where to start again or anywhere go. We provide foods, scholarships, empowerment for them to go into trade and rent houses for them.
“The Foundation built tailoring empowerment centre at Oba correctional centre in Abeokuta where inmates can learn sewing, built mosques at Oba, Adigbe, Ibaraand at ijebu-ode correctional centres to help the inmates maintain spiritual life and build hope.”
He explained that HCF assisted the Kirikiri Medium correctional centre with the provision of drugs and the repair of their faulty non-functioning ambulance to be able to move sick inmates to the hospital.
Engr Ismail lamented the poor conditions of some of the orphanage and juvenile homes saying that both government and individuals have to take issues concerning children seriously.
He said children as future leaders and hope of the nation should be well nurtured for a better tomorrow.
He hinted that HCF pays hospital bills of some children with special needs and support orphanage homes, support widows and giving monthly financial support to elderly people who are in need of assistance.
“If Nigeria is going to have a better future, there is the need for proper care for the children because children of today are the leaders of tomorrow so if we want good leaders tomorrow we should collectively take good care of the children of today. I encourage more people and NGOs to cater more for the needs of the kids,” he added.
