GWR: Chess Master, Onakoya aims 58-hour marathon

Chess master Tunde Onakoya, who helps kids in Africa learn chess, has announced his plan to break the Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon.

He posted this on his X handle on Friday, 13th April 2024, aiming to play chess for 58 hours without losing a game.

Onakoya plans to start his marathon game on April 17th at 10 a.m. in Times Square, New York City. He hopes to keep playing until April 19th at 8 p.m.

He shared his plan on social media, saying he’s doing it to inspire kids in Africa who don’t have good schools. Onakoya wants them to see that they can achieve big things.

He’s asking for support, especially from Nigerians, who have always stood by him. Onakoya believes that together, they can show the world what they’re capable of.

Onakoya is known for helping kids in Africa learn chess through his organisation, Chess in Slums Africa. He wants to show that with determination, anything is possible.

Two people from Norway hold the current record for the longest chess game. They played for 56 hours, 09 minutes, and 37 seconds. Onakoya aims to beat that and set a new record.
