Tribune Online learnt that the gunmen suspected to be hired assassins killed the 70 year old acting district head of Gyangyang village, in Gagdi ward of Kanam local government area, Plateau state at about 2:00 am on Friday.
A source close to the palace of the deceased, the late acting District Head, Mohammed Suleiman who‘s traditional title is Madaki of Gyangyang said the gunmen who were four in number forced themselves into the palace and shot the man at close range while other people within the palace scampered for safety.
The Management Committee Chairman of Kanam, Hon Hamid Hudu Bale who confirmed the attack said details were still sketchy adding that the council had contacted the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) who has moved to the area.
Former deputy speaker in Plateau state and member representing Kantana constituency, Hon Yusuf Gagdi expressed sadness at the incident but stressed that such attacks have been occurring in that general area.
“Last year the village head of Gonsum in Bungudu village was killed and there are reported cases of highway killings within the general area. Security agents should step in and do something about it,” he said.
Plateau state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP, Tyopev Terna confirmed the incident adding that investigation is ongoing.
