Suspected bandits have shot dead a local vigilante after abducting a nursing mother and her baby child at Falgore town, Rogo local government area of Kano State.
According to the chairman of Rogo local government area, Malami Rogo, the gunmen had attacked the village on Sunday midnight where they scared the residents with gunshots.
He further disclosed on Tuesday that the gunmen stormed the residence of one Yusuf Maitaki in Falgore where they abducted a nursing mother and her baby child.
The chairman, however, stated that the late security vigilante has been buried according to Islamic rites.
He said Falgore is a border town between Kano and Katsina States.
Police spokesperson in the state, DSP Abdullahi Kiyawa confirmed the tragic incident.
He added that the police received a security report around 1:30 am from Falgore town that some criminals have abducted a forty-year-old nursing mother.
Mr Kiyawa added that shortly after, a team of policeman and local vigilante were mobilized to pursue the criminals.
According to him, in the course of trailing the kidnappers, they killed one of the security vigilantes.
The vigilante was pronounced dead by the doctor on call at the hospital.
Mr Kiyawa revealed that the commissioner of police has since mobilised the team of Operation Puff Adder to rescue the abducted woman and arrest the kidnappers.
