gunmen in the early hours of Thursday, killed a lecturer of a private university in Benue State, the University of MkarA, Dr Aondosoo Tondo.
The university is a Christian Faith institution located in Gboko Local Government Area of the state.
Nigerian Tribune reliably gathered that the gunmen stormed the deceased’s residence at staff quarters on campus around 4.00a.m and shot him in the presence of his wife and children.
The deceased was said to be having early morning prayer when the gunmen stormed his official residence and it was further gathered that as soon as the they shot him, they escaped without taking anything.
The Public Relations Officer of the institution, Mr Suemo Shagba, who confirmed this to newsmen in a telephone conversation, said, “Tondo, who resides in the University staff quarters was murdered at about 4.00 a m by four unknown gunmen.”
According to him, “the gunmen came into the lecturer’s room while he was saying his early morning prayer with his family, they did not request for anything and just shot him.’’
The PRO said the deceased was promptly rushed to a general hospital in Gboko, where he was confirmed dead.
The late lecturer was with the Department of Political Science and hailed from Buruku Local Government Area of the state and was reported to be an aspirant for the local government election, which had been postponed indefinitely.
Also confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Moses Yamu, said the lecturer was murdered in his compound in the early hours of Thursday and that investigation had commenced.
