Tribune Online learnt that the heavily armed assailants invaded the community at about 7 pm when he was performing ablution preparatory to prayer.
The hoodlums, numbering five were said to have come in a Toyota Sienna bus and hot sporadically hitting their targets.
The gunshot sounds which lasted for some minutes led to pandemonium in the area as people ran for cover, while the gunmen stayed at the scene to ensure that the labour leader was dead before zooming off.

In another development, unknown gunmen on Tuesday night killed a 55 years old man, Abdulganiu Aduki, injured his five-year-old daughter and his wife at Nagazi in Adavi local government area of the state.
It was also gathered that the incident took place at Inori Street of Nagazi community area, at about 7.30pm on Tuesday.
The gunmen were said to have stormed his house, shot him dead while his daughter and his wife sustained a serious injury during the attack.
According to residents of the area, the gunmen were suspected to be hired assassins as they attacked Abdulganiu and his family and left without taking away any item to suggest they were robbers.
However, the administrator of Adavi local government council, Mallam Abu Ajoge, rushed the woman and her daughter to the hospital for immediate medical attention.
However, it was gathered that policemen from the Adavi division later came to the area to take photographs and remove the body.
Meanwhile, the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr William Ayah has confirmed the incident, saying the police would get the killers of Abdulganiu.
“There was a report that the man was dead and was in a pool of blood and his daughter and wife were seriously injured.
“His wife and daughter were also seriously injured and they have been taken to a hospital for treatment. The command is working assiduously to unravel the occurrence. We have some leads which we are working on, and we are optimistic of breaking through,” he promised.
