Gunmen kill Babcock University professor, abduct two

Gunmen attacked Babcock University in Ogun State, killed a professor of law, Yinka Olomojobi, and abducted two others.

The professor was shot on Friday because he didn’t want to go with the gunmen, while two residents were forcibly taken away to an undisclosed location.

According to Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, a suspect has been apprehended in connection with the crime.

“A two-week-old security guard has been detained on suspicion, as the police launch a thorough investigation into the matter,”

“A report from the Iperu Division indicates that a kidnapping and murder incident occurred on the 19th of April, 2024, at about 9:20 pm.”

“A suspicious coincidence led the police to arrest one Awada Ishaya of Plateau state who was employed two weeks ago when the event centre was launched as a security man for further interrogation,” Odutola said.

“The lecturer was taken to Babcock University Teaching Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The tragic event unfolded at the Ajadeh Event Centre on Sagamu Road, where eyewitnesses recounted a horrifying scene.

According to eyewitnesses, eight gunmen, clad in black attire and armed with firearms, stormed the premises and unleashed chaos by firing indiscriminately.

Among their victims was Prof. Olomojobi, who valiantly resisted their attempts to abduct him, tragically resulting in his fatal injury.
