Gunmen kill APC Chief in Ekiti

Unknown gunmen has shot dead a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, Mr Bunmi Ojo.

Ojo, who was a member of the Federal Character Commission, was said to have been shot dead at a football viewing centre at Opopogbooro in Adebayo area of Ado Ekiti.

Sources claimed that Ojo was shot in the head after the football game, which had ended at about 09:45pm.

The sources claimed that the late Ojo, a former commissioner at the Federal Character Commission, died at the scene of the shooting before help could reach him, with a mourner saying “no one could have survived a shot in the head like he was shot.”

A close associate of Ojo’s, who chose to remain anonymous, said no one could readily say why he was killed, “but we are not ruling out the possibility of the act being politically-motivated.”

The source said the late Ojo was “waiting for the confirmation of his renomination as a member of the Federal Character Commission (FCC) and we can also state the he had an eye for the House of Representatives to represent Ido/Osi, Ilejemeje/Moba Federal Constituency.”

It was also gathered that his wife saw the news through social media last night, with the source hunting that their family members might have taken her away from their home at the Housing Estate in Oke Ila area of Ado Ekiti.

The Public Relations Officer of the Ekiti State police Command, Mr. Caleb Ikechukwu, who confirmed the incident, said the police had begun investigations.

Ikechukwu, who reacted through the telephone, said the police had launched investigations into the murder and that “when we conclude investigations, we will come out with a statement.”
