GUNMEN suspected to be assassins on Sunday evening shot dead an undergraduate student Omoyemi Adebamiwa of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, (AAUA) , in Ondo, headquarters of Ondo West local government area.
The armed men who were said to have trailed the deceased with their Okada stopped the 21 year old girl along Akure road and shot her at close range.
According to a source, Akinbamiwa who is the daughter of a popular food vendor in the town was sent on an errand by her mother in company of her male friend, when the incident happened around Coca-Cola area of the town.
He explained that the male friend took to his heel immediately the hoodlums shot Omoyemi, while the armed men also shot sporadically into the air to scare away the residents of the area and pave way for their escape.
He said “the armed men shot sporadically into the air to scare away the people and they escaped on their Okada leaving the young girl in her pool of blood while people scampered for safety
“The girl was shot at close range and she was caught unaware when three men attacked her but the gunmen did not take anything from her.”
He however disclosed that some policemen from the Special Ant-robbery division of Yaba divisional police station, Ondo visited the scene where Akinbamiwa was found and was confirmed dead at the hospital
He said the policemen took her remains to the State Specialist Hospital Morgue while men of the police command were seen patrolling the town and stopping vehicles at random for searching.
Confirming the development, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Femi Joseph, said, his men are on the trail of the hoodlums who killed the young girl.
He said the male friend of the deceased has been helping the police in their investigation
Joseph confirmed that all the items with the deceased were intact saying her laptop, phones and other items were not taken away by the assassins.
He disclosed that the young girl had concluded all arrangement to travel out of the country to further her studies. He assured that the perpetrators will be brought to book soon.
