UNKNOWN gunmen have abducted the Financial Secretary of the Ekiti State chapter of
Oni, according to the Publicity Secretary of the party in the state, Mr Jackson Adebayo, was said to have been kidnapped between Efon and Erio Ekiti as he was returning from a party assignment from Efon.
Adebayo explained that Oni, who hails from Aramoko Ekiti in Ekiti West Local Government Area, was abducted at about 4.30pm on Saturday.
Adebayo, who hinted newsmen of the development on Sunday, said Oni had gone to conduct PDP’s local government congress in Efon Local Government.
According to him, the kidnappers had established contact with the victim’s wife and younger brother and that they had demanded a N30 million ransom.
He said Oni was travelling with his daughter and grandson, in his car, when they were waylaid by the unidentified gunmen who seized Oni and ferried him to an unknown destination.
“He went to conduct our Local Government Congress in Efon Alaaye and was abducted while returning to Aramoko.
“The family had been contacted, but they told the abductors that even the entire family can’t raise N1m and they were requesting for a
the staggering sum of N30m to secure his freedom.
“The family told us reliably that they have made a formal complaint at the police station in Efon about the abduction.
“Our party is not resting as well. We are making contacts to ensure that he is safe and is safely returned to all of us and his family.”
The Police Commissioner, Ekiti Command, Mr Abdullahi Chafe neither denied nor confirmed the incident, saying that he was out of Ekiti and had not been adequately briefed about the incident.
Chafe promised to make details about the incident available as soon as possible.
He said: “I can’t confirm now. I am not in Ekiti State as I speak with you.”
