Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on Monday evening abducted a chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ifon, in Ose local government area of Ondo, Nelson Adepoyigi.
Adepoyigi, who is the Chairman of APC in Ward 5 in Ose local government, was reportedly kidnapped at his house on Monday evening while returning to his house.
According to a family source, the victim was opening the gate to his house when the gunmen invaded his house, and dragged him into the bush after beating him.
He said when the gunmen came around, they started sporadic shooting to prevent the residents from coming out to rescue the victims before they took away the APC Chairman.
The source, however, said the kidnappers had contacted the family, demanding N100m as ransom to secure the freedom of Adepoyigi.
He said the kidnappers have been negotiating with the family, insisting on payment of ransom before the victim can be released.
Confirming the abduction, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Olusola Ayanlade, said the politician was kidnapped at the entrance of his house.
He said, “I can confirm to you that the chairman APC ward 5 was kidnapped at the entrance of his house along Ifon-Owo road.
“At the receipt of the report, the DPO Ifon, in collaboration with the hunters, local VGN, and Nigeria Army personnel, has launched a manhunt for the suspects.”
