Gunmen abduct two in Benue

Gunmen were reported to have abducted two people including a medical doctor identified as Asema Msuega at the Ugbaam council ward of Ukum local government area of Benue State.

The incident, according to locals happened around 13:00hrs on Sunday when the duo were on their way to supervise the ongoing State Malaria Control Programme at the Family Support Programme at Uyo.

The local who did not want to be mentioned said that “the incident happened on Sunday afternoon, we learnt that the medical doctor and one woman were going to supervise a health program at Uyoo.

“We gathered that people were already at the Health facility waiting for their arrival when they were informed that some gunmen waylaid them on the road and whisked them away.”

The local further said that calls put across to the medical doctor’s cellphone rang out.

When contacted, the State Command spokesperson SP Catherine Anene confirmed the incident and added that investigation was ongoing.
