Gov race: Traditional rulers support Ogun Speaker’s aspiration

The Alaye of Ayetoro, Oba Abdulazeez Adelakun and some traditional rulers in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State, have thrown their weight behind the aspiration of the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon Suraju Adekunbi, in clinching the ticket to contest for the governorship seat in 2019.

This was coming on the heels of Adekunbi’s endorsement by seven political parties in Yewa North Local Government Area of the state.

The traditional rulers stated this during a solidarity rally held in the town and which was attended by the representatives of the political parties which include the Accord Party (AP), Action Democratic Party (ADP), Labour Party (LP), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN), All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Oba Adelakun urged the people of the town and other stakeholders in the State to support the Speaker for continuity in governance.

“This time we are ready to support our own with unshakeable and massive support. We want development for our senatorial district and we believe in the Speaker’s ability to consolidate on the present gains in the state,” he added.

The representatives of the political parties at an event organized by a group, Ayetoro Solidarity Forum (ASF), described the Speaker as a formidable aspirant with a wealth of experience in grassroots politics.

The leader of ASF, Chief Oyenitun Olateju, said the group unanimously endorsed Adekunbi, after series of meetings.

The ASF appreciated Governor Ibikunle Amosun over his decision to support the cause of the Yewa-Awori people who have not produced a governor since the creation of the State in 1976.

He said, “Members of ASF have seen the good relationship between the executive governor of Ogun State and the Speaker of the House of Assembly. We have seen the symbiotic working togetherness between the executive and the legislative arms of government in Ogun State.

“We people in Ayetoro Yewa irrespective of our ethnicity and political leanings hereby appeal to His Excellency (Amosun) to allow the contest for the governorship race of Ogun State in 2019 to fall on Ayetoro Yewa.”

The political parties representatives except that of the PDP whose name was slated but failed to show up promised their unflinching support in ensuring the realization of the Speaker’s dream in occupying the number one seat in the State.

Adekunbi while addressing the people, promised not to betray their trust in him if given the opportunity to administer the State, while appealing to the people to avail themselves of the opportunity of the ongoing Voters Registration Exercise, to get registered and collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) so as to actively participate in the electoral process.
