Groups kick against planned protest

No fewer than one hundred youth and student groups stormed Government House, Birnin Kebbi, earlier this week, disassociating themselves from the planned nationwide protests against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

The peaceful protesters expressed that participating in the protests would be detrimental to the sustainable peace, unity, and socio-economic prosperity of the country.

They chanted slogans like “Sai Kaura Gwandu, Sai Tinubu,” and “We don’t want protest” as they marched through major streets in Birnin Kebbi, the Kebbi State capital, to Government House, where Governor Nasir Idris addressed them.

An elated Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris, commended the youths for choosing the path of peace and dialogue.

“I am happy that our able, indefatigable, and vibrant youths have steered clear from the planned protests,” he said. “It is not in our character to engage in such shows of shame and ungratefulness.”

Governor Idris explained that the three tiers of government are doing their best to execute projects that will improve Nigeria. He noted that a trajectory of development, peace, and progress cannot be consolidated in a rancorous environment.

He urged the youths to continue their patriotism, prayers, and patience. “Do not mortgage your future by allowing some unscrupulous elements to use you to foment trouble,” he advised.

Addressing the group earlier, the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, who is the immediate past governor of the state, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, acknowledged the credible leadership and good governance of the APC leadership in Kebbi State.
Bagudu also commended the governor for fostering a robust synergy with the federal government, stating, “This is attracting many positive developments to the state.”

The spokesperson for the group, Muhammad Adamu, expressed strong opposition to the planned protests, emphasising that they are law-abiding and patriotic citizens.

Adamu noted that their stance reflects recognition of the significant progress made by the Kauran Gwandu administration in various sectors, including education, health, agriculture, and security.

The Hon. Commissioner for Youths Development, Hon. Nura Bala Fingilla, also praised the youths and students for their decision to distance themselves from the planned protests.

“I applaud the foresight of Kebbi youths and students for unanimously opposing the planned nationwide protests against the government,” he said.
