The Osogbo Development Action Group (ODAG) has called on the Osun State Government to reinforce security measures in the issuance of Local Government of Origin Certificates.
The group stressed that safeguarding the process is essential to preserving the state’s identity and ensuring that certificates are not issued to non-indigenes.
The group noted this in a statement jointly signed by the group Coordinator, Ajani Lukman and General Secretary, Oladejo Saibu.
According to the group, the recent digitization of the certificate issuance process by the Osun State Government aims to enhance accessibility for residents.

However, ODAG has raised concerns about the potential risks of misuse, urging the government to ensure only genuine indigenous people benefit from the system.
“The issue of indigeneity is complex in Nigeria, with many states discriminating against non-indigenes in areas like employment, education, and political participation. To prevent this, Osun State must ensure that Local Government of Origin Certificates are issued only to those who genuinely belong.
“Verification Process – Strengthening the verification process to ensure only genuine indigenes receive certificates.
“Digital Security – Ensuring the digital platform for issuing certificates is secure to prevent fraud.
“Education and Awareness – Educating the public about the importance of preserving Osun’s identity and the correct procedure for obtaining Local Government of Origin Certificates.
ODAG emphasized that while protecting Osun’s identity is paramount, it is equally vital to prevent any form of marginalization.
“By taking these steps, Osun State can preserve its identity while preventing discrimination against non-indigenes,” the group stated.
