A socio-political movement, United Nigerian Movement for Change (UNMC) has called for a United and corporate Nigeria where freedom and security of lives and properties are guaranteed, as it also explains how the masses can rescue power from the two mega parties in the country.
The group made these calls during a zonal meeting it held in Oyo State recently, where it also sensitized members of the great opportunities and resources the country has and how the dream of a better Nigeria can be achieved.
Speaking at a press conference held after the meeting, the National leader of the group, Dr. Abdulfatai Durojaye said help was on the way for Nigerians. He also highlighted some of the solutions to Nigeria’s borrowing spree. According to him, the excesses in governance were too much and should be cut down.
“We need to cut down excesses, when we do this, we would realize that we don’t need to borrow. We need to cut costs enormously. We spend money on irrelevances in Nigeria, if you look at the excesses we have in the presidency, the MDAs, and the National Assembly, you will see that we don’t need to borrow.
“When you see what a single legislator is making, it is just so insane, you cannot even pay workers’ salaries and someone is making N350 million. A Nigerian senator is making more money three times more than an American president. He, however, stated that governance is for those who want to serve and not to make money. “If you want to make money, do business like Dangote, politics or government is for those who want to serve,” he added.
Speaking on some of the missions of the group and how they plan to make a change, Dr Durojaye said Nigerians need to strategize to rescue power from the current holders of power in the country. He said: “We will compete with the major political powers in 2023. We know it is not going to be easy, we will have to strive for it, and we do not have the illusion that we are going to be entering a terrain that is going to be easy.
“These people are strategizing, because Nigeria is their occupation, it is what they make a living from. Do we have any option apart from this country? No. So, as long as we do not have any option apart from this country, we need to strategize to rescue power from them and these people are not powerful as we think they are. They are as powerful as to the extent of our inactivity.
“As long as we are not active, as long as they psychologically put it to us that no other political party could win, we will remain static. At UNMC, we are not for personal gains; whatever we are doing is an act of giving back to the people, Nigerians need to be educated on why they need to support this cause.”
On how they plan to touch lives and solve Nigeria’s problems, he noted that they need political powers as there was little or nothing they could do to touch every Nigerian’s life without gaining political powers.
“I have dedicated my life to studying Nigeria’s problems, it is, however, important that we take practical steps in proffering solutions to these problems. I have realized that for us to be able to provide free education for our people, deplorable roads, quality health care services, security of life, and properties, we need political powers.
“It is only when you have the political powers with you that you can touch the lives of millions of people. Even the richest man in the world cannot touch every Nigerian’s life, but President Buhari with good policies could do that, although, he has failed woefully in achieving that.
“In UNMC, we are mobilising ourselves, galvanizing the people across the country and we are going to use a platform to be competitive in the next general election and we will be offering candidates even up to the highest level of governance with the hope of taking Nigeria back. So, we call on all good Nigerians, even the good people in these two major parties in Nigeria to also partner with us so that we can deliver the dividends of democracy to the Nigerian people.
“If 50 million good Nigerians come together, there is no power of Bulion van that can stop us, we believe the future of Nigeria is great, and we believe you and I (UNMC) are the future of Nigeria. That is our message for Nigerians,” he said.
