Group seeks Tinubu’s intervention over insecurity in Orlu

A Non-Governmental/Political organisation identified as Orlu Progressive Initiative (OPI) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the national assembly, and the international community to come to their aid over insecurity in their area.

The organisation made the call through its Executive Director, Orlu Progressive Initiative (OPI), Ikechukwu Nwabueze at her official launching held in Owerri weekend.

The group called for partnership with the organisation, other NGOs, relevant bodies such as the traditional ruler, religious bodies to ensure return of succor and total peace in their land.

The Executive Director who stated need for coming together to make peace and reconcile from every dispute and grievance to embrace development regretted that if nothing is urgently done on the state of affairs in Orlu zone, the situation may consume everyone

He said: “government at all levels must not shy away from the. numerous challenges ravaging the zone”.

Nwabueze urged government in power to rise and seek a lasting solution towards restoring peace and order, development, and confidence in the zone.

He said: “Our brothers and sisters and our sisters that are in different parts of Nigeria and all around the world can no longer come home because of fear of the unknown and uncertainty. This development is certainly unhealthy and heart-breaking”.

While the Non-Governmental organization was established with the intention to drive, foster development and sustainable growth among the people in different areas of human endeavours such as education, health amongst all, Nwabueze said that the organization was set up with the goal of rebuilding the Orlu Culture and people.

According to him, the organization stands for social well-being of the people of Orlu, Imo State, and Nigeria by extension adding that part of their plans is to take statistics and data of people who are beaten by the current situation in the land

He said that the ongoing programs of the organization would encourage reaching out to various stakeholders, interest groups, individuals, development partners, and lovers of human capital development who would in turn reach out to concerned individuals and persons especially the unemployed youths, physically challenged, poor widows and the vulnerable.

He said: “the Initiative has nothing to do with politics of Imo State or Nigeria by extension but the Initiative that is people’s oriented which was vision by my humble self”.

He recalled that in recent times, the zone Orlu has witnessed some form of security challenges and economic setbacks which have made people living in the zone to have low productivity outcomes, poverty, hunger, shortage in agricultural produce, unemployment, poor health amongst others.

The Executive Director pointed out that it was based on the reality of the zone that prompted the organisation to commence with immediate effect of preaching for peace and love for one another to restore peace and confidence, tolerance, healing of wounds, and reassurance of life in its fullness to the people.
