Group seeks rotational governorship in Oyo

A newly formed pressure group, Egbe Ajosepo Fun Itesiwaju Gbogbo Wa, has called for a fair and inclusive political structure in Oyo State, advocating for rotational governorship among all five geopolitical zones.

This was stated by the group during a radio program tagged “ Gbagede Òro “ on Honor FM, Ibadan on Friday.

The group expressed concerns that, since the creation of Oyo State, governance has been largely concentrated in Ibadan, with the exception of the late Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala’s tenure, which they described as an “accidental” break from the trend.

According to them, the lack of development in other parts of the state necessitated the formation of this movement, which comprises representatives from all zones, including Ibadan.

While the group emphasized the need for political equity, urging Ibadan elites and stakeholders to support candidates from other regions, such as Oke Ogun, Ibarapa, Oyo who they believe have capable leaders ready to serve.

The group’s leadership present at the program, include the chairman of the group, Engr. Olaifa Alade; spokesperson, Professor Jacob Babayemi; General Secretary, Pastor Favour Adewoyin and others.

They claimed that, in over 42 years of Oyo State’s existence, other regions have remained politically sidelined, leading to stagnation in development. As part of their advocacy, the group plans to engage traditional rulers, political parties, and key stakeholders across the state to push for a more inclusive political structure.

The group, however, urged all well-meaning citizens to support the movement for a rotational governorship system that ensures balanced development across Oyo State.
