Dr Bukola Saraki
AN Ibadan-based social-political group under the aegis of the Focus has ranked the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki, as the only trump card the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) can lay on the table in the February 2019 presidential election.
This was just as the group advised the National Working Committee of the PDP “to perish any thought of micro -selecting the party’s standard based on zonal considerations or any other primordial sentiments.”
Addressing newsmen after the group’s meeting at Premier Hotel in Ibadan on Wednesday, the group’s coordinator, Ayokunle Oladapo, lauded the decision of Saraki to contest for the presidency as the most rational and well-considered.
According to him, “At this defining moment, when the nation’s ship is dangerously heading towards the rapids, Nigeria deserves a leader with the superior intellect to pilot the state’s ship to the Promised Land.
“Nigeria is tired and sorely bored with the vacuous rhetoric of change without concomitant action – a tool of deceit employed by the present administration to snooker the populace. For how long are we going to live in denial?” he said.
Oladapo eulogised Saraki, describing him as the “man who is in charge and the only person who is most eminently qualified among those vying for the presidential ticket of the PDP.
“Saraki can be judged by his sterling track record and unquestioned wealth of political experience. The camp of PDP is star-studded no doubt, but among the best first eleven, a captain must emerge.
“Senator Saraki’s is the most youth-friendly among the contenders and he is endowed with transferable skills to hasten the pace of development in Nigeria. He is open to change and he has shown irrevocable commitment to growing Nigeria project,” Oladapo said.
“Nigerians are impatiently waiting on PDP to offer a better alternative, with fewer regards to the zone its candidate comes from, but more emphasis on inherent ability, capacity and capability of whoever the lot falls on to take the nation back on the right track.
“It is groundless to be talking of zoning in a precarious moment like this when the teeming populace are suffering blistering economic weather,” he said
