A non-governmental organisation, Tynachomaa Charitable Foundation, has offered free medical support to 500 elderly people, widows, and indigents in the community who could not afford healthcare services.
Speaking during the free medical outreach programme that took place in Umuehie, Anara, in Isiala Mbano LGA of Imo State, the founder of the foundation, Justina Chioma Ohaa, expressed regret that due to the hardship in the country, many elderly and sick individuals in the community can no longer afford access to medical facilities.
She said the foundation was moved to launch a free medical outreach targeting the poorest of the poor, adding that they are currently taking care of 500 patients with different illnesses.
She noted that the foundation is engaging 16 medical personnel, including five surgeons from different specialities, to handle elective and emergency surgeries at the foundation’s expense.
Additionally, she stated that the foundation has five pharmacists and ten qualified nurses on-site to diagnose and dispense medication to the elderly and less privileged in the community as needed.
Ohaa also mentioned that the foundation currently has 12 students under its scholarship scheme, ranging from secondary schools to tertiary institutions.
She said, “We provide vocational training and empowerment for the youths. We also offer palliatives twice a year to widows, the less privileged, orphans, and support agricultural empowerment.”
Ohaa revealed that the foundation plans to build a primary health centre for the community, equip it, and support the personnel to ensure that community members have access to healthcare services.
She declared their commitment to continually supporting humanity to improve lives and livelihoods, emphasising that they are determined to uplift the downtrodden, helping them embrace sustainable sources of income that enable them, especially the vulnerable, to become independent and prosperous individuals who can, in turn, support others.
Speaking at the event, the Nigerian representative in the Diaspora Commission, Roseline Biamegh, lauded the Tynachomaa Charitable Foundation for the initiative.
She said, “This is what NiDCOM represents—to provide for the engagement of Nigerians in the Diaspora in policies, projects, and participation in Nigeria, utilising human capital and material resources.”
The Commissioner for Health, Imo State, Prof. Michael Ubaka, also commended the foundation’s rare initiative in helping the elderly, vulnerable, and indigent access free medical support.
He described the initiative as aligning with the state government’s vision of partnering to enhance health policies and improve the wellbeing of its citizens.
