Group lauds Jigawa gov’s N698.3bn budget

The Prime Initiative for Development, Fiscal Transparency (PIDFT) lauds Jigawa State governor, Malam Umar Namadi on 2025 Budget of Innovation and Transformation for the State.

This was contained in a statement, issued, signed and made available to Online Tribune in Dutse the state capital by the organizational executive director, Mal. Muhammad Abdul Dutse said the the significant effort by the governor to speed the advance growth and development of social and infrastructure plans in the proposed budget is highly commendable.

According to the statement “Governor Malam Umar Namad 2025 Budget of Innovation and Transformation for Jigawa State proposed budget, amounting to ₦698.3 billion, is a bold commitment to ensuring progress and prosperity for the state”.

The executive director explained, “This ambitious budget underscores the state government’s dedication for fostering sustainable development and improving the standard of living for its citizens”.

Mal. Muhammad Abdu Dutse added that “the realization of this transformative vision requires not only strong governance but also the active participation and support of the people of Jigawa State”.

“Governor Namadi’s administration recognizes the challenges posed by the current economic realities and the recently enacted tax reform bill. These factors necessitate a collective effort to bolster the state’s IGR targets”.

The Non-Governmental Organisations commended the state government’s initiative and implementation of Jigawa Integrated Tax Administration System (JIGITAS) online platform for tax collection, face-to-face taxpayer engagement through the Jigawa Engagement and Enlightenment Team (JEET), the use of presumptive tax to tap into the informal sector, and the establishment of a Tax Audit Unit reflect the government’s determination to promote voluntary compliance and address tax evasion and linkages.

“Furthermore, the introduction of a Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM) to ensure that taxpayers’ concerns are addressed promptly and effectively. Citizens can access GRM contact points located strategically across the state to resolve any tax-related grievances would improve and maintain transparency and accountability in the revenue collection and remittance”.

The executive director therefore called on all residents, businesses, and stakeholders to contribute their fair share to achieve the goals of the 2025 budget, tax compliance, as emphasized by the administration, is not just a civic duty but also a critical pathway to funding essential services and driving transformative development.
