Local security network in Ogwashi-Uku, headquarters of Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State, on Monday received a boost as members of Beacon Club donated eight pieces of walkie-talkies to the state vigilante group in the area.
The items, according to the club, were part of measures put in place by the club to curb insecurity in the community which has been an administrative headquarters since 1910.
Handing over the walkie-talkies to the Commander of the vigilante group at the Divisional Police headquarters, a member of the club, Dr Emmanuel Ugbah, said the donation was in line with the policy of the founding fathers of the club to bring succour to the citizenry.
According to him, communication was key in the fight against crime, believing that the vigilante group would make judicious use of the equipment to further stem down the crime rate in the locality.
Ugbah used the occasion to appeal to the warring factions in the community to sheathe their swords so that peace would prevail in the interest of all, adding that turbulence was adversely affecting the development of the town.
Receiving the items, the commander of the local security network, Mr. Henry Chukwuemeke Azimo, appreciated the club for the gesture assuring that the items would further enhance their communication network.
Azimo appealed to other indigenes of the town to further assist the group due to operational challenges facing them such as vehicles and motorcycles.
He commended the Chairman of Aniocha South Local Gvernment Area, Pastor Jude Chukwuwike, for  repairing some of their motorbikes, just as he appealed to the community elite to come to their aid in the neighbourhood watch, all in a bid to assist the police in the fight against criminals.
