Felt perturbed by the spate of political killings in Osun state and other parts of the country, a civil society group, under the aegis of the World Institute of Peace (W.I.P), has charged the presidency to prevail on the Inspector General of Police and other security agencies to arrest hoodlums perpetrating violent acts before the forthcoming election in Osun state.

The group also called on stakeholders in the state to act promptly to address the act of killings which it said has claimed lives in all the nook and cranny of the state.

Addressing journalists in Osogbo on Wednesday, the Executive Chairman of the society, Dr. Lamina Kamiludeen Omotoyosi argued that the incessant killings could affect the successful conduct of the March 11 election in the state if not urgently tamed.

Omotoyosi called on the presidency to prevail on the Inspector General of Police and other security agencies to intensify efforts on the arrest of hoodlums perpetrating violence before the forthcoming election in Osun state and other parts of the country to ensure the safety of the electorate.

“However, it is a cast down to learn that the Osun state government has not made any statement concerning those who have lost their lives to political thugs in the state within the last few months neither did the government give warning and instead, the government is empowering the alleged political thugs with state appointments.”
