A group in the Odua People’s Congress (OPC), the Yoruba sociocultural organisation, has commended the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi for his intervention in the lingering crisis in the congress.
Speaking with journalists in Ilorin, on Thursday, the spokesman of the group, Comrade Maruf Olanrewaju, said that the traditional ruler made his intention to intervene known during a meeting with members of the group in Ile Ife.
The OPC leader, who described the planned intervention as a welcome development, said that it was the only way to resolve the leadership crisis that had slowed down activities of the group.
He said that the Ooni’s position was for peace to reign in the congress, adding that the post of national coordinator should be for a tenure.
He assured the traditional ruler that his group would be available for the reconciliatory move by the royal father.
Also at the press briefing, Comrade Sina Akinpelu from Ibadan, said they were overwhelmed by the decision of the Ooni over the crisis.
He noted that the position was in the interest of members which would, in no distance time, restore the popularity of the congress.
Also speaking, Comrade Olayinka Olowo from Lagos State said that the group supported the idea of rotating the position of national coordinator to forestall leadership problem in the future.
According to him, allowing people to stay in positions of authority for long makes them “to develop a wanting-to-die-there syndrome.”
