The group made the call in Lagos at the weekend at a press briefing addressed by its national coordinator, Barrister Olusegun Bamgbose, even as it lauded the PDP for holding a successful national convention that produced Prince Uche Secondus as its national chairman.
The group also welcomed the recent defection of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar back to PDP ahead of the 2019 elections, describing it as a blessing in disguise for democracy and a warning signal to the APC to start fulfilling their electoral promises to Nigerians.
“A one-party state in the country is an enemy to democracy. It is crystal clear that since APC won the 2015 election in Nigeria, all other parties that should have served as virile tool for checks and balances have gone to sleep.
“It is to our consternation that the ruling All Progressives Congress has become notorious for giving excuses for its inability to perform to the expectation of Nigerians,” Bamgbose lamented.
Bamgbose, however, said the ability of the opposition PDP to resolve its differences ahead of the 2019 general elections would put the party on a very sound footing to participate effectively in the polls, pointing out that the PDP had not really been putting the ruling APC on their toes ahead of the 2019 elections.
