Group calls on EFCC to investigate ex Benue gov or…

A group of youths in Benue State under the auspices of Benue Youths Movement for Democracy (BYMD) has threatened to occupy the office of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, Abuja to force the commission to act on the gazetted white paper submitted by the state Attorney General of Justice Mike Gusa.

The president of the association, Comrade Terrence Kuanum, explained that the white paper of the report of Kporjime probe panel, which indicted the immediate past governor of the state, Dr Gabriel Suswam, and 52 others of mismanagement of about N107billion had been submitted to the anti graft commission but regretted that the EFCC boss is refusing to act on the report.

Kuanum who addressed newsmen in Makurdi yesterday maintained that in line with acceptable law guiding the anti graft commission to investigate and prosecute any alleged corrupt public officials however lamented that “since over three months ago the petition has been submitted to EFCC, the commission has swept the issue under the carpet.

“The entire Benue community is wondering why the active EFCC could sweep such sensitive petition with facts and figures under the carpet, we as concerned Benue community demand that EFCC should wake up from slumber and do the needful to commence investigation into the matter with physical invitation to the affected persons immediately.”

While accusing the anti graft commission boss of deliberate refusing to investigate the matter before him due to an allegation that the head of Magu inner security was the former ADC to Suswam, Kuanum said that youths from the state would mobilise themselves to occupy the office of EFCC if by Thursday the commission refuses to act on the petition before it.

“As affected Benue people, we wish to give EFCC up till Thursday to investigate these looters and failure to do so, we shall have no option than to match to the street to press home our demands,” the president said.

The group however called on the attorney general of the federation to prevail on EFCC to commence investigation into the matter before it.
