As a way of enhancing its current status as an independent and a world-class co-educational institution, Grange School, Lagos, has unveiled plans to raise a sum of N2.5 billion to finance five developmental projects.
The money is expected to come through donations from organisations, parents of past, current and future students, alumni and other stakeholders of the school.
The chairperson of the governing council of the school and wife of former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mrs Awenuba Ajumogobia, disclosed this in her remarks at the grand finale of the 60th anniversary ceremonies of the school and unveiling of the proposed five developmental projects, tagged ‘Five Campaign Unfolding the Future,’ held at MUSON Centre, Lagos, last Saturday.
Many dignitaries were at the event and they included former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Odein Ajumogobia; managing director of Airtel Nigeria, Mr Segun Ogunsanya; Hajia Abah Folawiyo; executive director of Nigerian Exports Promotion Council, Mr Segun Awolowo, and his wife, Mrs Bola Awolowo; group managing director, CMC Connect Limited and an alumnus of the school, Mr Yomi Badejo-Okusanya, among others.
The school’s orchestra and choir also performed at the event while some alumni and members of staff were honoured with awards of excellence.
Speaking further, Mrs Ajumogobia listed the five proposed projects and their cost to include a new hostel (worth half a billion naira), D&T multi-purpose building (N600 million), steam centre (N550 million), theater and performing arts studio (N400 million) and indoor sport centre (N450 million).
“These projects will be executed in five phases and all within one year with a strong belief that their completion will benefit not only the current and generations of students to come, but also the staff and the country’s education sector as a whole,” she added.
Mrs Ajumogobia, a parent of former student of the school, noted that Grange School is known for excellence in academics, skills acquisition, good character, arts and sports, among others.
“The school has steadily produced many individuals who have distinguished themselves in their chosen fields and nation-building,” she said. “And we want to continue in that light.”
In his remarks, the board chairman of the school, Mr Dayo Lawuyi, who was represented at the event by the managing director of Airtel Nigeria, Mr Segun Ogunsanya, confirmed that Grange School is operating British curriculum and is committed to the production of well-rounded students.
While assuring that the school would not rest on its oars, he, however, urged all the stakeholders to support the school in nurturing the young minds who he said would make breakthrough discoveries that would shape the future of Nigeria and the world at large.
