Minister of Art, Culture and the Creative Economy, Barrister Hannatu Musa Musawa has applauded the five Nigerian music artistes who were nominated for various awards at the just concluded 2024 Grammy Awards despite not eventually winning in the categories that they were nominated.

Minister Musawa described David Adeleke, aka Davido; Damini Ogulu, aka Burna Boy; Ahmed Ololade, aka Asake; Olamide Adedeji, aka Baddo; and Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, aka Ayra Starr as great achievers in the music industry and and role models to Nigerian youths.

The five Nigerian music stars all failed to make the podium on Sunday at the 66th Grammy Awards held at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, United States, in their nominations across different award categories but Musawa stated that their nominations had brought forward to being the next winners.

Minister Musawa stated that though the stars didn’t win, it was a great achievement to be nominated for the 66th Grammy Awards.

“I wish to applaud you all for making it this far in your music and entertainment careers. Nigerians celebrate you all for your contributions to the growth of the music industry in Nigeria and globally.

“You have also written Nigeria’s name on the global map through your songs and performances and also contributed immensely to the country’s economy. We are proud of your achievements and I am hopeful that you will not only be nominated at the next Grammys but you will win,” Munsawa said.

Burna Boy, nominated for melodic rap performance, best African music performance, best global music performance and best global music album lost the golden gramophone for Best African Music Performance to 22-year old Tyla Laura Seethal of South Africa while Davido also lost the best rap album to Michael – Killer Mike, and likewise Asake , Baddo and Ayra Starr.

The African Music Category is new at the premier global music award.
