The National Coordinator, Nigerian Christian Youths Political Platform (NICHYPP), Mr Matthew James, has called on Christians to be more involved in the political activities of the country.

He made the call in Lagos while announcing the association’s planned maiden award event in honour of Christians in public offices.

Bemoaning the level of involvement of Christians in politics, James said the ceremony was aimed at motivating young Christians to participate in the politics.

He said further involvement of godly leaders in political decisions would ensure peace and prosperity.

He said: “We intend to encourage godly leaders, as well as Christians, who think that being in politics is ungodly, to get involved in the political decision of our country. The Bible says when the righteous are in power, there is peace. At this present time, our nation needs peace.

“It has become necessary to challenge Christians to serve the nation with the gift God has given them. We believe this award even will motivate more Christians to participate in politics.”

Among those expected at the ceremony tagged NICHYPP Unity Merit Awards (NUMA), at the Women Development Centre, Abuja on March 25, are the Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo; Pastor Tunde Bakare; Pastor E.A. Adeboye; Pastor Paul Adefarasin; President, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Reverend Samson Ayokunle; Governor Akinwunmi Ambode  of Lagos State; a former military Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, and a host of others.
