Govt’s implementation team tours new Oyo LCDAs

OYO State government implementation committee on the take-off of the newly created 35 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) has commenced a tour of the proposed locations and headquarters of the LCDAs.

The committee, headed by the deputy governor, Chief Moses Adeyemo, which is tasked with the successful take off of the new LCDAs, went round the proposed sites for the LCDAs in Ibadan metropolis on Wednesday to examine the suitability of the sites and the readiness of the mother local governments for asset sharing, workforce redistribution and ward delineation.

Speaking at the end of the first round of visitations, Adeyemo said that the LCDAs were the government’s response to the yearnings of the people of the state for faster development at the grassroots.

There are 14 LCDAs in Ibadan zone, two  in Ibarapa, four in Oyo, seven in Ogbomoso and eight in Oke-ogun zone, noting that the creation of the LCDAs would bring the government closer to the people and hasten development in local communities.

According to the deputy governor, “The government is ready for the immediate take-off of the new LCDAs. We have directed the existing 33 local governments to submit details of the staff, assets and sources of their revenue which they have complied.  We are in the process of asset sharing and staff redistribution to ensure a successful take off.”

Adeyemo noted that the Petitions and Complaints Committee set up to receive and review complaints, issues and other matters pertaining to the creation of LCDAs is already receiving and working on the complaints received, stressing that the government would carefully review the reports of the committee when submitted. The deputy governor also commended various stakeholders in the different LCDAs who have supported the government through their contributions especially in donating infrastructure for the immediate take off of the LCDAs.

It will be recalled that Governor Abiola Ajimobi recently assented to the bill creating 35 LCDAs out of the existing 33 local governments in the state based on the correspondence from the state house of assembly that the executive arm should review the 2002 Gazetted Law creating LCDAs.
