PRESIDENT of Serendipity Widows Foundation (SWF), Mrs Yemisi Jaiyeola, has urged to the Federal Government to come with programmes and policies that enhance a lot of widows in the country.
Jaiyeola, who is also a widow, made the call while speaking at the official launch of the N250 million legacy endowment fund to build homes for widows.
This was just as the SWF president urged women not to be intimidated as a widow, saying it was one of the surest things that would definitely happen in more homes to people on earth.
Jaiyeola lamented the way and manner in which the government and society treated widows in the country, saying the government had often refused to embrace and assist them.
“Look at the high table did you see any official of government here and I sent invitations to the people in government. It was only Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in his usual generous way that assisted us with funds for the entire eight years of his administration,” she said.

Jaiyeola urged the society at large and the government to extend their hands of fellowship to widows.
“They are just unfortunate people who want a new lease of life. Help them to grow and be empowered. Life and nature will continue to create widows,” she said.
Also speaking at the event, Aare Tunde Odofin, called on the government and community leaders to intervene in the plight of widows in the country.
“The problem of the widow is the problem of the society. As long as widows plights are not adequately and frontally addressed our society will remain in danger and the essence of humanity is being lost,” he said.
