Ebonyi State government has suspended the chief optometrist of Ezzamgbo General Hospital, Dr Abia Anthony, and one other resident doctor over their continual absence from duty.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Daniel Umezurike, announced their suspension at the weekend during an unscheduled inspection tour to the hospital.
The Commissioner who expressed dismay on the doctor’s constant absence at the hospital whenever he visits, vowed that the doctors will not be paid again until the state government reviews their terms of employment.
He warned all the health workers against lackadaisical attitude towards work as he would be embarking on an unscheduled tour to any facility from time to time.
However, Umezurike directed Dr Ogbonnaya Nwambeke who highlighted some of their challenges at the hospital to include shortage of man power and insecurity in the area in his official memo and forward it to his office so that he would channel it to the appropriate quarters for immediate action.
The Commissioner also visited Ezzamgbo maternity and everybody was on seat except the officers in charge OIC who according to them just left for the police station in respect of an armed robbery attack on the ITC students of the hospital recently.
Recalled that doctor Abia, has once been suspended by the commissioner earlier for being absent at work.
