Govt should declare state of emergency in agriculture research sector —Professor Adebowale

GOVERNMENT has been asked to declare a state of emergency in the agriculture research sector.

Making the call was the Chairman, Board of fellows, Nigerian Institute of Animal Science (NIAS), Professor Ebenezer Adebisi Adebowale, while speaking with the Nigerian Tribune over the weekend.

He pointed out that agricultural researches need adequate funding and there was the need for government to make available funds to carry out researches in order to make the agriculture sector flourish.

“As a matter of fact, the government should declare a state of emergency in the research sector because that is where the furure lies. All the developmental projects that are coming from abroad were as a result of huge investment in research.

“If the government do not declare a state of emergency in the agriculture research sector, I do not know what could happen in the future. Because international funding are not forthcoming as it used to. If I have an opportunity to occupy any public office today, that would be the first thing I would tackle . That is, a state of emergency must be declared in the agriculture research sector’.” The former Director, Institute of Agricultural Research and Training (IAR&T) concluded.
