GOVERNMENTS at all levels have been charged to convince youths across the country that they are genuinely interested in their success, by being more transparent in all areas of governance and policies, especially in ones that affect the youths.
The newly installed Mogaji of Tooki Compound, Oke Ayeye, Ibadan, Oyo State, Chief Lukman Okedinna, gave this advice after his installation recently, noting that Nigerian youths are talented and resourceful and that all that they need is a little support in order that they can display their talents and contribute their quota in the area of the nation’s development.
Okedinna also stated that it was imperative for the government to involve the younger generation so as to ensure sustainability growth in Nigeria.
Speaking on his commitment towards youth development, Okedinna, stated that he was devoted to empowering more youths in the country, especially in his jurisdiction, while he also pledged to support 100 youths in tertiary institutions, as well as empower them through various vocational trainings.
“I have done more than engaging the youths. Even before I was installed as Mogaji of Tooki, I employed youths of this community to construct a hall and it was done within two months. If we didn’t engage them for those two months, you can imagine what they would likely had gone into.
”During the empowerment programme, these youths had the opportunity of displaying expertise in various skills.
The youths are yearning for a transparent government and sincere leaders. This is what we deserve as a nation.
My advice to the youths of my jurisdiction, and the nation at large is that they should be focused and also support one another.
We know the government is trying, but we need someone to open up a proper channel between the government and the youth,” he stated.
