W HENEVER a politician wants to give back to members of his constituency, he would buy motorcycles, grinding machines, stoves, among others.
Most of our politicians are so uninnovative. They should look at policies that will empower the people for years to come. Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s free education policy is a good example. Politicians should make lasting impression in the lives of the people, and this can only happen through education.
I am happy that President Muhammadu Buhari is someone who knows the value of education. He should focus on developing our educational system, as this is the solution to our challenges.
A well-educated person will be able to think for himself, and will not be easily manipulated by politicians.
I believe if successive governments had focused on education, we will not be having the Boko Haram challenge we are having in the North East at the moment.
As a result of this, I want to charge the Federal Government to focus more on education. However, such education should encompass vocational skills, which will make our youths to be self-employed, instead of them relying on non-existent jobs.
Again, it will make more sense if owners of our private tertiary institutions establish businesses to be run by their graduates. This will also go a long way in reducing unemployment in the country, particularly among the youth.
