Governor Ortom’s anti- grazing law

Published by

The effort made by Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State which has resulted in the establishment of the law against open grazing in Benue State is worth applauding.

I have been watching with keen interest to know the governor’s stand on the issue that impelled the initiation of the bill, which is now a law that prohibits the massacre of Benue people by armed herdsmen.

However, I must agree and laud Governor Ortom on this one. At least, he has shown that even though he is  owing workers’ salaries and allowances, he is committed to halting the incessant killings of his people by herdsmen.

It is worth noting that before now, the same herdsmen had killed many people in Kogi State, but the state government is yet to curb the menace.

Let me at this point call on the governors of states where the herdsmen are still killing innocent citizens to emulate Governor Ortom and stop playing games with the lives of their people by trying to impress President Muhammadu Buhari for their selfish interest.

Notwithstanding, we should all know that some governors sending the herdsmen out of their states has nothing to do with ethnic discrimination.

The governors of the affected states and their people are only against those herdsmen that are killing the people, raping women, destroying houses and peoples’ farms, but not the entire Fulani as an ethnic group.
