Kogi Governor, Alh. Ahmed Usman Ododo has awarded a contract worth N69 million for the rehabilitation of Government Secondary School (GSS), Iluke, through the Kogi State Community and Social Development Agency (CSDA).

The school, which was devastated by fire in 2020, is set to undergo its first major renovation since its establishment in 1977.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, the Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Wemi Jones, described the project as a pivotal moment in the state’s commitment to educational development.

He emphasized that education remains the top priority of the Ododo administration, which is heavily investing in primary and secondary education to prepare students for the state’s numerous tertiary institutions.

“Today marks a special day for education in Kogi State,” Jones stated. “This intervention underscores our administration’s dedication to creating a brighter future for our youth.”

The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Kingsley Fanwo, also hailed the initiative as a fulfillment of Governor Ododo’s promises.

He reflected on his connection to the school, describing it as instrumental in shaping his life.

“This intervention restores the glory of GSS Iluke.  The Governor has once again demonstrated his commitment to grassroots development and education by using CSDA as a tool to deliver impactful projects,” Fanwo said.

Hon. Dauda Momoh, General Manager of the CSDA, disclosed that the project includes the renovation of three boreholes in the community alongside the school rehabilitation.

He assured the public that the project would be completed within four weeks, as directed by the Governor.

“All necessary resources have been provided, and the contractor has been instructed to ensure quality and value for money,” Momoh said. He also urged community members to protect government facilities, emphasizing the importance of taking ownership of public projects.

The Olu of Iluke Bunu, HRH Chief Funsho Ayinmiro, expressed gratitude to Governor Ododo for delivering on his promise. “This project reflects the Governor’s dedication to the development of our community and the entire state. We are truly grateful,” the monarch said.

The school’s principal, Mr. Olorunfemi Mengbole, echoed the community’s appreciation, while residents of Iluke celebrated the development, calling it an investment in the future of their children.

The rehabilitation of GSS Iluke reinforces Governor Ododo’s vision of empowering communities and prioritizing education as a cornerstone of Kogi’s progress.
