Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has announced the donation of science textbooks to all secondary schools in the state to improve academic learning.
Governor Nwifuru disclosed this while inspecting one of the 39 Model Secondary Schools at PRESCO, located along Old Enugu Road Mile 50, Abakaliki, as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 64th Independence anniversary and Ebonyi’s 28th anniversary.
Reiterating his commitment to education and human capital development, Nwifuru also visited the ICT University of Oferekpe and commended the progress of work at the three-story Senate and Administrative Building.
The governor, alongside state stakeholders, inspected Ezeogo Chinedu Nwankwo’s palace, one of the 67 buildings being constructed for traditional rulers in the state.
Also inspected was the Vincent Agwu Nwankwo Junction (VANCO), with underground tunnels, an initiative aimed at returning Abakaliki to its master plan and decongesting traffic gridlocks in the area.
Governor Nwifuru proceeded to inspect the Agbaja Unuhu road, which connects Nkaliki, Agbaja Unuhu, and Okwase Nkaliki. He commended the contractor for expediting the project’s completion and expressed his readiness to open rural communities for infrastructural development.
Meanwhile, the governor also inspected the Ebonyi State Broadcasting Corporation (EBBC) and praised Director General Tony Nwizi for ensuring the speedy completion of the station’s remodelling to meet the requirements for digital transmission with rich media content.
Earlier, the governor had inspected the site of the International Olympics Stadium at Ochoudo Centenary City, Abakaliki, where he disclosed his intention to review the project and increase its capacity to meet international standards.
He stated, “I have asked China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) to assess the cost of remodelling this part and the implications of not having a complete line. The implication of having an incomplete line is that international and national activities can’t take place here. We are building here to compete with the Goodwill Akpabio International Stadium in Akwa Ibom.
“For us to reach that level, it may warrant increasing the lines to get it right. Considering what we earn as a state, a lot of money has already been spent here. If you spent 50 kobo in 2022, now you are going to use 10 Naira to get it right. The foundation of the decking has been laid; this is not a complete deck. We are stepping up to that. This is not the stadium yet; this is just a taste of what is going to happen.”
