Gov Mutfwang calls for change in perception of governance

Published by

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang has tasked state political appointees and top civil servants to change their perceptions and stereotypes about governance, stating that the time has come for everyone to step up and offer solutions.

The governor, who cautioned against slothfulness and indolence, urged the commissioners to use their position as government officials to alter the perception and work diligently as though there would never be another chance.

In his opening remarks during the five-day retreat for the state commissioners and other government officials on Monday, Governor Mutfwang added that by virtue of their appointments, a window of opportunities has been created to address challenges facing the people of the state.

“The time has come for us to rise up and proffer solutions. I have seen former governors who are living in poverty. I have seen former National Assembly members, commissioners, and local government chairmen who today cannot feed themselves. Why is our situation like this? Should we continue like this despite all of the blessings the Lord has bestowed upon us?

“But now the window of opportunity has been opened to us to change the lives of our people. When you don’t utilise the opportunity in a season, it will go. Therefore, we must do all that we can to change the narrative. Let us work as if this is our last year; don’t let us postpone what we can do today for tomorrow. There is no time for slumber and slothfulness; there’s no time for selfishness.

“One of the things we should learn is that a society is always advanced on the platform of unity. No man can do it alone, so the time we are operating alone, creating camps for ourselves that time is over. It is time for us to join hands together and take advantage of this time”.

“No one should think he has enough time. Apart from me and the deputy governor, no one is guaranteed a duty post. It is good that you are loyal to me but henceforth I want your loyalty to be shifted to the God of heaven because ultimately you are accountable to God. So you must on a daily basis have a clear conscience before God,”
