He stated this at the closing ceremony of the Orientation course for the 2024 Batch “A” (Stream II) Corps members deployed to Oyo State.

Represented by the Commissioner of Youth and Sports, Wasilat Adegoke, Makinde assured the Corps members of the readiness of the Oyo state government tp cater for their needs.

He also urged the Corps employers to lead and guide the Corps members in the right path, treating them like their own.

He said, “I assure you that the State Government will be committed to your welfare throughout your stay here. I want to implore all Corps employers to treat Corps Members posted to them like their children and wards. Correct them when they err and also commend them when they are of good conduct.”

The Governor also urged the Corps members to be of good behaviour in their Place of Primary Assignment (PPA) and be ready to make impact in their host communities.

“Please make sure you influence their lives positively. Be diligent, dedicated and law-abiding in the discharge of your duty.

“As you are moving into the nooks and crannies of Oyo State, you should be ready to make your impact felt in your host communities by embarking on projects that would add value to their lives.

“Endeavour to leave a legacy in your various host communities by rendering selfless service to the people.
I wish to inform you that Oyo State people are very hospitable and accommodating.

“There is no cause to entertain any fear because Oyo State is peaceful. Feel free to interact with the people of your host communities to enable you share in their dreams, hopes and aspiration for a better life. Who knows, your host community may even turn out to be a permanent place of abode.

“I also want to implore you to be a role model at your place of primary assignment especially those of you that are posted to schools. The young ones have a lot to learn from you. Please make sure you influence their lives positively. Be diligent, dedicated and law-abiding in the discharge of your duty.

“May I now call on you Corps members to support and join hands with the state government in the task of building a stronger, more united, peaceful and democratic nation.”

Earlier in his address, the Oyo state NYSC coordinator, Mr Odoba Abel Oche harped on the importance of the Corps members’ welfare.

“The welfare of Corps Members is of the utmost importance to us. We are therefore appealing that employers provide them with basic needs such as accommodation and transportation or allowance in lieu.

“I equally want to make a case for corpers lodges in all the Local Government Councils as this will assist the Corps Members to settle down on time,” Odoba said.

The coordinator, therefore, implored the Corps members to remain committed to their duties and be law-abiding.

He said, “To my Corps members, It is important for you to strive and be committed to your duties in return for a good welfare package, remain law abiding and accept challenges that would give you an edge in life.

“I implore you to add value to the certificate you have obtained by embarking on acquiring skills for self-development.”
