Gov Makinde, dignitaries set to attend 2024 Ibadan cultural festival

Oyo state governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, his counterparts from the South West region, traditional rulers, and other notable Nigerians have been billed to attend the 2024 Ibadan Cultural Festival, scheduled to commence on Sunday, April 24th.

The chairman of the planning committee, Chief Kafaru Ojetola, disclosed this at the official flag-off of the event held at Ibadan House, Oke-Aremo, in the Ibadan North local government area.

He disclosed that prior to the commencement of the annual event, the multimillion-naira Olubadan palace would be commissioned in March 2023 and put into use.

Chief Ojetola added that the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Senator Lekan Balogun, would play host to the visitors at the new palace.

The chairman added that the festival is aimed at showcasing the cultural heritage of the land as well as marketing it to the outside.

According to him, the annual festival is aimed at attracting local and foreign investors to Ibadanland.

“Ibadan has a rich cultural history. Part of the measures to keep the age-long memory alive is the cultural festival.

“Also, the festival is aimed at uniting the indigenes both at home and in the diaspora.

Many programmes have been lined up for the seven-day event, including religious services at various churches and mosques, the Amala festival, a football competition, a business luncheon, and a beauty pageant.

To achieve the set goal, the chairman has solicited financial assistance from the indigenes of the land at home and abroad, as well as the business organisations that domicile in the land.
