Gov Ishaku wants traditional rulers to be symbols of love, unity

Gov Darius Ishaku of Taraba on Thursday urged traditional rulers to promote love and unity while striving to make their domains models in the efforts toward peace and stability.

“We want permanent peace in the state and traditional rulers are key to this quest. You must strive to be models by setting good examples for all to follow,” he said.

Ishaku spoke in Jalingo, at a meeting with traditional rulers from Jalingo and Ardo Kola Local Government Areas.

The governor reminded the traditional rulers of the important roles they were expected to play as custodians of good cultures and warm traditions, and appealed to them to always offer suggestions that would aid the quest for a better Taraba.

He also tasked them to mobilise and sensitise their subjects on policies and programmes of government to gauge their feelings and also ensure massive support.

The governor said that he was working hard to resolve the salary issues of local government workers and primary schools teachers.

“There are lots of sharp practices in the payment of local government salaries and primary school teachers; no amount of pressure will stop me from continuing the ongoing bio-metric exercise until genuine staff are ascertained.

“A lot of people are benefiting from the system and are doing everything to frustrate our efforts to sanitise it, but we will stop at nothing until ghost workers are removed for the purpose of transparency,” he said.

Responding on behalf of the traditional rulers, the Galadima Muri, Alhaji Abba Tukur, appealed to the governor to initiate laws that would compel any visitor into the state to first report to the traditional ruler in area.

Tukur said that such law would help checkmate the activities of people with questionable character trooping into the state to cause trouble.
