Gov Dickson former aide found dead in hotel, alleged lover escapes

THE Police in Bayelsa on Saturday confirmed the death of a stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa, Mr Nasko Egei at Aridolf Resort Wellness and Spa, a hotel operated by former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan.

It was learnt that the deceased had checked into the hotel with a female companion believed to be his lover, who disappeared after his death.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Bayelsa Police Command, Asinim Butswat, confirmed the incident, saying that investigation into the incident which occurred on Friday was underway.

Butswat, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, however, said it had not been established what led to the death of the married man.

He said that efforts were being  made to trace the female friend who was with the deceased to help the police unravel the cause of death adding that it was too early to speculate.

“It has not been established whether he was poisoned or not. At this point, we won’t be able to establish whether he was poisoned and who poisoned him.

“But we will look at the people he was with the previous night before the incident. By the time we carry out a post-mortem investigation, that will determine what substance actually led to his death. The investigation is on-going.” Butswat said.

Egei was a former Senior Special Assistant to Governor Seriake Dickson on Youth Development before he pitched his political tent with the APC.

The father of two was in his late 30s before his untimely demise.

A kinsman of the deceased who wished to remain anonymous, said the death was very suspicious and said that the hotel management had questions to answer.

He said that a three star hotel like Aridolf should have a Close Circuit Television (CCTV) to show identity of  the lady that the deceased was with him when he died.

“The hotel sure has questions to answer. A hotel as big as Aridolf cannot claim not to have a CCTV. So, the hotel will do a whole lot of good to unravel what happened.

“Therefore, we implore the security agencies, particularly the police to swing into action to investigate this sad incident.

“The hotel should be made to provide the identity of the lady that went with him to the hotel. If the identity can’t be got, the hotel should be able to play its CCTV to know the female guest with Nasko.

“As kinsmen, we will not allow the matter to be swept under the carpet. We are sad about this incident.” He said.

It was learnt from sources at  the hotel that the hotel’s CCTV system has been out of order for some time making it difficult to ascertain the identity of the deceased’s female companion.

One of the sources at the hotel said that the deceased was found naked in his hotel room by the hotel management and subsequently reported the matter to the Police.
